As a child, I had no interest in playing classical guitar. To tell you the truth, I didn't know of it's existence. My parents were lovers of, but I never got into it very much. Although my first passion was rock and roll, clasical guitar was always around me I yearned to become a rock guitarist, shredding before crowds of thousands and making huge amounts of money from it. Needless to say, classical guitar didn't fit into that.
Clearing out the garage one day I found my dad's old classical guitar. I did not understand that the soft strings and headstock design were different to either metal strung acoustic guitars or electric axes, having never seen an instrument close up before. I assumed this was what all guitars looked like, and my dad was persuaded to teach me to play. He showed me some right away, and my practice became nonstop.
One of the great things about starting on the classical guitar was that it allowed me to practice a lot more than I would have been able to otherwise. When you are first starting out playing an acoustic guitar, the strings really bite into your fingers. Because classical guitars are strung with nylon strings, this problem is less severe. even beginners can play continuosly. This means that getting started is much easier.
Eventually I discovered that I was playing classic guitar music, but by then I was hooked on clasical Guitar. It really was a beautiful instrument, and I was loving the music that I was being taught. By first learning classical guitar is that it becomes easy later to pick up rock 'n roll. Rock music, folk music, and most popular music is very straightforward. Learning classical music will give you all the tools to easily take it up anytime you want to. As a matter of fact, some of the best lead guitar players out there nowadays are classically trained.
If you are thinking about learning guitar, it will pay you to give classical guitar a close look. Try out some free online classical guitar lessons. Take a look at what the teacher is doing and make a decision if you like it. Even if you ultimately find that classical guitar is not your style, you won't have lost anything. If anything, you will have started with a good musical foundation that will make you a better rock player than if you hadn't studied classical music.
