The origins of the guitar of today can be traced back a great many generations with many of the ancient instruments having characteristics of the modern instrument. Although the guitar most frequently possesses six or twelve strings there are others which can have four, five, seven, eight and ten strings. For many decades this musical instrument has played the leading role in the advancement of popular music and even after the invention of electronic keyboards, and samplers, the guitar is the main instrument in the majority types of music such as rock and blues.
With so many ways of creating music on computers you might be surprised to discover that for several years now the popularity of the guitar has been slowly increasing with more people aquiring and attempting to learn how to play the guitar. Most folk learn to play the guitar by purchasing a teach yourself guitar book. There are a number of publications which include audio CDs which make the learning much easier. Such publications more often than not show you a number or basic chords and bar chords as well as power chords and a small collection of simple songs.
A superb method of learning how to play is by purchasing a DVD or, better still, an interactive DVD which can teach you various different styles and techniques. As well as tuition DVDs offering basic lessons it is possible to purchase specialist versions which teach you how to play like a successful group. Commonly these include a collection of songs by that performer so that you can master their techniques.
As well as learning from interactive DVDs on a computer you can also get guitar lessons online. Some folk offer courses on a personal basis by way of webcams and downloadable material. Many people own the console game "Guitar Hero" and you can even get a similar thing online but for real guitars. Electric or Acoustic Guitar
The acoustic guitar is available in a number of types but all rely upon a sound box behind the strings to increase the sound of the vibrating strings. Most folk have had sight of a classical guitar and most acoustic guitars are of this type, however there are numerous other types available for example the Resonator.
The electric guitar is the best known type however it is found in such a wide selection of designs that you are only limited by your own imagination. There are a few classic designs such as the Fender Stratocaster (Strat), Fender Telecaster and the Gibson Les Paul which are the most famous.But, with digital technology, these three famous guitars and more can be found in a guitar called the Variax which uses digital modeling to shape the sound of the instrument to sound pretty much the same as the original.
In the past most folk learned guitar on an acoustic model but the price of electric guitars has fallen so much that it is now possible to purchase a full package, guitar, amplifier, strap and tuition book/CD, for nearly the same cost as a quality acoustic.
Keep in mind if you are starting to learn how to play guitar it is imperative that youstart at the beginning! Way too many folk assume that they can master a guitar classic instantly, however, with a just a little effort and time you could be well on your way to becoming a the greatest guitar master.
